Our Story

Our Country. Our Culture. Our Community.

Our history

Our Beginnings

Jarlmadangah Burru was established in 1987 by Traditional Owners on land associated with Mount Anderson Station.

The establishment of the community represented an important step in creating a place where families could maintain connections to Country and develop community facilities and opportunities for future generations.

Over time, Jarlmadangah Burru has developed community spaces, services and infrastructure supporting everyday life.

Our history reflects the resilience, determination and leadership of the people who helped establish and develop the community.

Our connection

Our Country

The West Kimberley is a region of extraordinary landscapes, cultural heritage and living traditions.

Jarlmadangah Burru is connected to the Country and cultural knowledge of Nyikina and Mangala people.

Country is more than a location. It is connected to identity, family, history, responsibility and the passing of knowledge between generations.

Our strength

Our People

The strength of Jarlmadangah Burru comes from its people.

Families, Elders, young people and community members all contribute to community life and the continuation of cultural knowledge.

Our people’s knowledge, leadership and commitment help guide our community and support future generations.

Community leaders and Elders guide the work of the corporation, so that decisions reflect the voices of families and the needs of future generations.
